Porsche Taycan Sales Nearly Matched The Cayman And Boxster Combined
Taycan sales cracked the 20,000 sales mark. Porsche’s 1st mass produced all electric car seems to be a hit. The German automaker revealed the Taycan sedan within the last half of 2019, just before it was launched before the end of the year. With 2020 behind us, though, we can look at Porsche’s product sales figures, and buyers seem quite taken by the Taycan. The model’s 1st 12 months of sales cracked the 20,000 sales mark and almost exceeded Porsche 718 sales.
Last year, Porsche offered a combined total of 21,784 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman models. The Taycan was just behind that, with 20,015 models sold recently, too. It’s an impressive first-year outing for the brand new model, though we still have to see if those numbers stay consistent. New EVs often see strong product sales first, just for them to lose subsequent years as interest decreases. Also, there are still more Taycan trims and variants coming that could help bolster future sales.

However, the Taycan has a long way to go to exceed other Porsche sales basics. The Cayenne was Porsche’s worldwide sales head, the automaker moving 92,860 examples of the large SUV. The Taycan also trailed the iconic 911, which sold 34,328 examples globally. The Taycan’s outstanding sales year took place regardless of a six-week stop that happened early in manufacturing. Total Porsche sales, globally, were down 3 % to 272,162 models. US Sales fell 7 percent, 61,568 in 2019 to 57,294 in 2020. Porsche saw sales rise in China, Africa, and the Middle East.
The best trim Taycan is the 4S, though there’s a base model still expected. Porsche is usually developing the long roofed Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo. Traveler pictures have shown that model without camouflage, making us think its debut is upcoming, though Porsche has yet to send out any save-the-date notices so people can clear their schedules for the reveal. We’ll observe Taycan sales this coming year to determine if Porsche can supplant 2 of its sports cars with an all-electric sedan.

Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo Spied Camo-Free With A Smooth Roof
No roof rails? No problem.
We just noticed a naked Taycan Cross Turismo proto-type some days back, and at 1st look, we considered these new spy shots revealed the same vehicle. It was also caught on Germany’s roads, but it wears a different number plate, and its top is as sleek as the polished neck of the new guitar.
This is not the first Cross Turismo test car we have seen with no roof-rails, but it is the first smooth-roof we’ve seen completely free of camouflage. It is not that it makes much difference, while with the side-rear camo now eliminated, the slick top Cross Turismo resembles the Panamera Sport Turismo in profile. All things being equal, perhaps the rails are better suited for the Cross Turismo. In any case, it is still a sharp-looking wagon.

As with the other proto-type we recently caught on camera, that one looks to have stickers on the front-fascia as LED strips. Most probably, that’s completed to maintain at least a little bit of mystery for when Porsche ultimately goes official with a reveal. At least, we hope they are fake as these strips aren’t precisely straight, and the Taycan’s squarish face would be much better off without them. This vehicle seems to be driving a little high with gobs of wheel gap in the fenders from the front side. Undoubtedly it’s a Cross Turismo, so a bit of extra clearance is expected. The absent roof-rails are throwing us off a bit.
Despite the exterior details, underneath the skin should be a carbon-copy of the standard Taycan sedan. It’s not a bad thing because all electric-drivelines can generate as much as 761 horsepower (567 kilowatts) for all- wheels to handle. That translates to face warping acceleration that sees 60 miles per hour arrive in 2.6 secs. The minor version should only provide around 530 hp (395 kW), and we have no idea of pricing just yet. Expect it to start north of 6 figures.
When will it finally be revealed?
Camofree Porsche proto-types in public generally means a debut is weeks or even days away. The 2020 Los-Angeles Auto Display would’ve taken place around the end of Nov, and that time-frame could well be what Porsche has in mind for a Taycan Cross Turismo celebration.
